Sadducee
A member of a Jewish group closely associated with priestly and temple leadership.
Also called · Sadducees
What it means
The New Testament depicts Sadducees as denying resurrection and, in Acts, denying angels and spirits in contrast to Pharisees.
They appear among Jerusalem’s powerful leaders, but surviving information is limited and largely comes from writers outside the group.
How it appears in the Bible
Sadducees were influential in the late Second Temple period and disappear from the biblical record after the temple era.
