Sadducee
A member of a Jewish group described in the New Testament as denying resurrection.

What it means
In Matthew 22, Sadducees present a case of a woman who successively married seven brothers and ask whose wife she will be at the resurrection. Jesus answers that people do not marry in the resurrection.
Acts 23 says that they deny not only resurrection but also angels and spirits. On these matters they differ from the Pharisees.
How it appears in the Bible
In Acts 4, Sadducees join priests and the temple captain in arresting Peter and John because they object to the apostles’ teaching about resurrection through Jesus. Acts 5 shows the high priest and his Sadducean associates putting the apostles in prison.
