Sling

A simple projectile weapon used to throw stones at high speed.

Also called · shepherd’s sling

What it means

A sling held a stone in a small pouch attached to cords and released it through a swinging motion.

It could be used by shepherds, soldiers, and skilled slingers rather than being merely a child’s toy.

How it appears in the Bible

David chose smooth stones and used a sling against Goliath after declining Saul’s armor.

Translation note

This is a cord sling, not the forked elastic slingshot common today.
