Cubit
An ancient length based roughly on the forearm from elbow to fingertip.
Also called · ammah
What it means
The cubit was a human-scale measure, but ordinary and longer cubit standards both existed.
This variation means biblical dimensions should be visualized as approximate rather than exact modern plans.
How it appears in the Bible
The ark, tabernacle furnishings, and Ezekiel’s temple vision are measured in cubits.
Translation note
Common estimates are around 45 centimeters, with longer cubits also attested.
