Stadion
A Greek distance measure based on the length of a stadium course.
Also called · stadia · furlong
What it means
One stadion was roughly 180–190 meters in many Roman-period contexts, though local standards differed.
The plural stadia is common when biblical journeys and large symbolic distances are described.
How it appears in the Bible
Luke gives the distance to Emmaus in stadia, and John describes how far the disciples had rowed.
Translation note
The meter equivalent is approximate because ancient stadium lengths varied.
