Food & daily life
Manna
The food Israel gathered in the wilderness after leaving Egypt.
What it means
The food Israel gathered in the wilderness after leaving Egypt.
Exodus describes it as a small substance appearing with the morning dew. The people ground or crushed it, cooked it, and gathered only what was needed, except before the Sabbath.
How it appears in the Bible
Manna sustained Israel during the wilderness journey and also tested whether the people would follow the daily instructions. John 6 later recalls it during Jesus’ teaching about the bread of life.
