Manna

In Exodus, manna appeared on the wilderness ground after the morning dew cleared. The people gathered enough to eat and were told not to keep it until the next morning. What some kept against the instruction bred worms and smelled bad.

Before the Sabbath they gathered twice as much and kept food for the following day. This portion did not spoil, and no manna was gathered on the Sabbath. Numbers describes grinding or crushing it and cooking it to eat.
