Nazirite

A person specially dedicated to God by a biblical vow.

Also called Β· Nazirite vow

What it means

Numbers 6 describes a voluntary period of dedication marked by avoiding grape products, not cutting the hair, and avoiding contact with a corpse.

Samson was set apart from birth, so his story is a distinctive lifelong case rather than the pattern for every Nazirite.

How it appears in the Bible

The Nazirite vow gave an Israelite man or woman a defined way to practice special dedication to God.
