Priest
An appointed minister who served at Israel’s sanctuary and altar.
Also called · Israelite priest
What it means
In the tabernacle instructions given to Moses, God appoints Aaron and his sons as priests. They serve at the sanctuary and altar, offer sacrifices, and bless the people.
Leviticus 10 instructs them to distinguish what is holy from what is common, and what is clean from what is unclean. They are also to teach Israel the laws God gave through Moses.
How it appears in the Bible
Exodus 28 describes holy garments for Aaron and his sons; Leviticus 9 shows Aaron offering sacrifices and blessing the people. First Peter 2 also calls believers a holy priesthood that offers spiritual sacrifices through Jesus Christ.
