Bread prepared without a fermented starter or leaven.

What it means
Exodus says Israel was driven out of Egypt in haste and baked unleavened bread because the dough had not risen. At the festival remembering the departure, leaven was removed from homes and this bread was eaten for seven days.
How it appears in the Bible
Unleavened bread appears in the Passover meal and the Feast of Unleavened Bread. In 1 Corinthians 5, Paul contrasts the leaven of malice and wickedness with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
