Urim and Thummim

Sacred items used by Israel’s priesthood when seeking a decision before God.

What it means

They were placed in the high priest’s breastpiece of judgment, but the Bible does not describe their appearance.

Their use was connected with obtaining a decision in matters brought before God.

How it appears in the Bible

Numbers says Joshua was to stand before the priest Eleazar, who would inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim.
