Veil
The curtain separating the inner sanctuary from the outer holy space.
Also called · curtain of the sanctuary · temple curtain
What it means
In the tabernacle it was a finely worked curtain hung between the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place.
It marked restricted access to the ark and the innermost part of the sanctuary.
How it appears in the Bible
The Gospels report that the temple curtain was torn when Jesus died.
Translation note
Some passages mention other entrance curtains, so not every sanctuary curtain is this inner veil.
